The major task of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in San Francisco in economic sphere is to develop trade, investment and other kind of economic cooperation between Russia and California, as well as other seven American states (Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon and Utah)

Attracting foreign investment to Russia and expanding Russian exports are the most important priorities of our activity.

Promoting Russian exports the Consulate General focuses mostly on manufactured products. We think that very good opportunities for cooperation lie in high technological areas. Achievements of Russia in such spheres as software, new materials, aerospace, some types of high-tech equipment, are very well known and commercialization of these technologies is mutually beneficial for both countries. Specifically Russian technologies could be very helpful to small and medium size US companies, which are going to modernize their production and improve competitiveness in domestic and world markets.

What particularly can we do for the Russian and American businessmen? First of all we can assist them in finding reliable partners, and the most favorable and the least risky investment projects, in organizing business trips to the USA and to Russia, in arranging conferences and seminars on various economic issues. We work with Russians and Americans, with large, medium and small companies, with state and private firms in different industries such as manufacturing, electronics, mining, energy, construction, in agriculture, in financial and banking sectors.

We try to help Russian and American partners to find an appropriate solution when they have problems in their business relationship. But we would prefer them to come to us before problems arise.

Providing information about investment opportunities in the Russian market and, specifically, in Russian regions and about the most attractive investment projects, the Consulate uses data of such Russian government agencies and organizations as Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Economy, Foreign Investment Promotion Center of Russia, Chamber of Trade and Industry, Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Interregional Association for Econimic Coordination “Far East and Zabaikalie” and others.

We consider facilitating the direct business ties between US states and Russian regions as an important part of our activities. The Consulate has the capability to directly contact the authorities of any Russian region for to finding solutions of issues concerning Russian American trade and investment cooperation.

The Economic section of the Consulate has a strong working relationship with the Trade Representation of Russia to the USA (Washington, D.C.) that promotes Russian-American trade and economic cooperation.

It gives us an opportunity to unite efforts in developing economic cooperation between Russia and US.

Russian Trade Representation in the USA The Trade Representation is the agency of the Russian Federation that promotes trade and economic cooperation. It represents and safeguards state interests in all aspects of external economic activities including the bilateral foreign trade and investment cooperation between Russia and the United States. In this capacity the Trade Representation takes part in trade negotiations and monitors the implementation of bilateral agreements. participates in the activities of the Intergovernmental U.S. Russia Business Development Council.

The Trade Representation is an integral part of the Russian Embassy in the USA its staff includes qualified economists and experts with long-term experience in the field of foreign trade. Many of them previously worked with different foreign-trade organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade of the Russian Federation.

Due to the process of liberalization of the foreign trade of the Russian Federation it became one of our major activities to provide assistance and consulting services both to Russian and American private companies regardless of their forms of ownership in finding business partners organizing joint ventures signing commercia contracts.

Special assistance is granted to government-sponsored delegations of Russian officials and to business people bankers and private entrepreneurs arriving to the United States on their own initiative. Joint Russian-American seminars briefings and presentations of individual companies and investment projects are periodically held in our premises.

American companies may rely on the services of our consultants when they encounter problems in dealing with Russian government entities banks and their private partners. Much attention is paid to providing assistance relating to changes in our trade law and customs regulations.
